Abstract

"Ambient experience" is a selling feature within Philips Healthcare to soothe down the patient during for instance an X-ray computer tomography (CT) scan. One aspect of "Ambient experience" is to project a video on the walls and the ceiling of the examination room of the CT-scanner. The projection on the ceiling of the examination room is realized by means of a beamer mounted above a relatively thin projection screen, imaging the still picture or video through this thin projection screen. Complaints were received because of vibrations of the projection screen mounted in the ceiling, resulting in visible waving of the video. This waving effect appeared to be related to the rotation of the gantry's rotating turn plate. Pragmatic tests are reported aiming at a better understanding of the physical phenomena involved.
