Abstract

A discussion covers the requirements imposed upon models and modeling techniques applied for high performance model based control systems and model based optimizers for support of the operation of (chemical) processes; on-going developments in the area of integrated high performance model predictive control and model based dynamic optimization modeling of relevant process behavior for control and optimization; use of a-priori knowledge and by integration of various modeling techniques; plant dynamics (ethylene plant); unit process dynamics (high purity ethylene and propylene distillation columns); effect of changing market conditions on the CPI; and control system bandwidth. These topics were discussed in a presentation at the 6th AIChE International Conference on Chemical Process Control (Tucson, AZ 1/7-12/2001).
