Heligoland is a small island in the North Sea off the German coast. It is well known for its mild climate and the low pollen count in the air during the hay-fever season. It is visited regularly by allergic patients seeking relief from their respiratory problems. However, nothing is known about another important group of allergens: house dust allergens, and about the mites with which they are frequently associated.
