The microfluidic system comprises a plurality of ciliary actuator elements (of magnetic particles in a polydimethylsiloxane matrix) located at an inner surface of a wall of a microchannel of the microfluidic system at a first location. The microfluidic system furthermore comprises a magnetic field generator formed by at least one current wire integrated in the wall of the micro channel at a second location substantially opposite to the first location with respect to a center line of the microchannel.
