Abstract
The Preoperational Meteosat (P2) has been kept in storage and has been launched after a few years. An error occurred, observable in the data downlink. The analysis of the observed failure pointed to the 32 column cylindrical array operating on the satellite. The analysis has been carried out and has confirmed the measured results in the data downlink ground station: a failure in one of the 32 columns, most likely due to a failure in a pin-diode switch (after weeks in GEO). The analysis has predicted other failure modes, has demonstrated a graceful degradation and has provided me with a trip to Kourou to witness the next Meteosat launch (Meteosat Operational Program).
