Abstract

We present a 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine-functionalized resin by modifying hydroxy-functionalized microbeads with 4'-chloro-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine. With this metal-chelating ligand attached to the microbeads we performed first loading expts. with a variety of transition metal-salts. This offers the potential of creating new heterogeneous catalysts for different org. reactions. Upon loading the terpyridine microbeads with iron (II), copper (II), cobalt (II) and Ru (III)-salts the characteristic coloring corresponding to the metal-complex salts of unfunctionalized terpyridines could be obsd. Further characterization was carried out by FT-IR- and UV/Vis-spectrometry. In addn. the loading of metal-ions was quantified utilizing atom absorbance spectrometry (AAS).
