Abstract

Drawing on the outcomes of a focus group consultation carried out in cooperation between the Urban Design group of the Eindhoven University of Technology and The Netherlands Architecture Fund, this paper outlines a tentative overview of new openings in Dutch planning practice with 'tegard to the role of design in regional development processes. Focusing on its capacity to mediate spatial actors, the article proposes four respective levels on which design is able to act as an incentive for realization, breaching tough decision making and inducing participants towards implementation.
