Abstract

In December 2016, three ice shell structures of cellulose-reinforced ice have been built on the campus of the School of Architecture of Harbin Institute of Technology. Samples of the two structures were taken and have been analyzed for their structural behavior. There are many uncertainties in construction, such as the form, material properties, thickness of the shell, impurities and etc. Therefore, it is hard to predict the mechanical performances of the ice composite shell structures very precisely. Considering the uncertainties mentioned above, there will be a difference of the mechanical performances between the designed structure and the realized structure.
