Abstract
This paper is focusing on the question how to best evaluate the User Experience (UX) of interaction technologies in the context of the living room. In this setting, other factors may be of importance and influence the user's experience of the interaction than for example in a work environment, like e.g. haptic properties of the remote control. In order to better understand these factors and their impact on UX, and thus being able to improve evaluation methods for this context in the future, a large scale ethnographic study has been conducted, focusing on the identification of factors that influence the UX of interaction technologies in a living room setting from a user's perspective. This paper presents the UX-related and contextual factors (e.g. aesthetic experience, emotional response) that were identified during this study and discusses these results and their implications for UX evaluation in the living room in detail.
