Abstract
In this work we present electric field measurements by means of a laser diagnostic
technique, based on Stark spectroscopy of krypton atoms. Stark spectra from the sheath regions of a glow discharge were collected, and experimental results were compared with theoretical data, obtained by solving the Schrödinger equation for the krypton atom. A good agreement between the calculated and experimental results for the excitations from 5s to nf states was obtained. Moreover, we found that energy levels of higher p states of krypton atom display a clear Stark shift. Apparently, these states are also quite sensitive to electric field, and they may be convenient for field measurements.
