Abstract
We report a magnetically-actuated dynamic surfaces (MadSurface) with pulsatile stiffness change for modulating macrophage polarization. The surface is fabricated from polyacrylamide hydrogel and magnetic microbeads. And a magnetic field was applied to the surface at a frequency of 0.1 Hz when culturing cells. The pulsatile stiffness change of the MadSurface facilitated a polarization of macrophage phenotype from M0 to M2 type, makes the substrate a promising platform for dynamic in vitro study of cell-matrix interaction and implant rejection.
