Least-Squares Method for Generated Jacobian Equations in Freeform Optical Design

Abstract

We present an inverse method to design freeform optical systems. This method is based on combining a generated Jacobian equation with a geometric equation. These are then solved using an iterative least-squares method. We evaluate the behavior of the algorithm using the example of a lens with a point source and a far-field target.
