Abstract

This paper presents the results of laser-to-monomode-fiber coupling and packaging for trunk system applications. The optical and mechanical design considerations are explained and the experimental results are discussed. A tapered fiber end with high-index lens on top and a single alignment step based on the deformation of indium are combined for the first time in one package assembly. Special couplingconfigurations for coherent system applications are also described.
