Laser diode devices for coherent fibre optics and special applications

Abstract

We present the basic idea of using one end of a laser diode for many functions simultaneously, instead of using the front and rear side separately. This method opens the way towards fully engineered and practical laser diode devices, incoherent lightwave systems and other new fields. More than two monomode fibres can be coupled simultaneously to the laser diode. Fabrication of the multiple pigtail is simple, in comparison with a possible alternative where the single monomode pigtail of a laser diode is connected to a branching device.
