Abstract

2020 was a momentous year. A (small) virus turned the whole world upside down and brought a lot of wheels to a standstill. On the other hand, a lot of wheels were also put into highest gear. Among other things, it became clear how advanced science is. The very-fast development of vaccines as the ultimate example.
For the built environment, buildings, the coronavirus meant a renewed look at the importance of health the contribution that buildings have to make. Think of good ventilation and sanitary installations without leaks and dry water ditches. The importance of good design and good building technology on health has been known to the insiders for a long time of course, but until now somewhat subordinated to the requirements of, for example, (visible) cost and energy.
The corona virus will remain to have our attention for a while. But the other problems have not disappeared with it. Think for example of the need for the energy transition and the consequences of climate change. It is in this context that TVVL has formulated its Meta-theme for the coming years: Understanding a healthy and circular built environment. In this article, an explanation of this is given and the sub-themes are discussed in their larger context.
