Abstract

Animal experiments were performed to study the relationship between strictly controlled external mechanical loads and the onset of tissue damage. The finite element model was used to determine the local stresses and strains within the tissues during the experiments. By comparison of the results of the animal experiments with the results of the finite element model, local mechanical quantities that are critical for the onset of tissue damage were observed
