    Abstract

The effect of shear flow on the formation of the rings in wormlike micelles in a generic reversible polymer was discussed. It was observed that the shear flow induced a net shift of micellar mass from linear chains to rings. An increase in abundance and size of the rings was observed which was attributed to the decreased entropy gain associated with ring opening under shear flow. The linear chains and rings elongated in the flow direction and contracted in the gradient direction, leaving two dimensional free volume.
