Abstract
The principles of infinite divisibility are discussed, and illustrated by their occurrence in statistical models. A number of conditions for infinite divisibility are presented, and used to prove the infinite divisibility of many well-known distributions in statistics. Some recent results in this area are presented and some open problems are proposed.
