Abstract

Based on the topology of the Impedance-Matched
Marx Generator (IMG) presented in 2017 by researchers from
Sandia (and others), we created a solid-state IMG using
semiconductor switches. The advantage of using the IMG topology
is that by using transmission lines to transmit the pulses from the
Marx stages to the load, the rise time of the stage pulses can be
maintained at the output (when carefully impedance-matched).
This way pulses with rise times of just several nanoseconds are
feasible, which is ideally suited for our work in transient plasma
generation. Next to the original concept comprising a central
coaxial transmission line, we have developed a second concept
based on planar transmission lines. This contribution shows both
concepts, the implemented generators and optional integration of
sensors in the transmission line to measure the output pulse.
