Abstract

cf. 62, 10428d. The synthesis of DL-1-(a-carboxybenzyl)imidazole-5-carboxylic acid is described. This compd. reacts with acetic and propionic anhydride to give enol lactones Ia and b, resp. Redn. of the corresponding oxo acids IIa and b with sodium borohydride, gives, upon heating, lactones IIIa and b.
