High-Q whispering-gallery mode quantum-dot microdisk lasers

We compute the whispering-gallery modes for a microdisk laser with an InGaAsP/InP quantum-dot gain medium. We find that whispering-gallery modes in the 1.5 ¿m telecommunication window with Q>105 can be sustained in a microdisk laser with a diameter as small as 2.8 ¿m and a thickness of 200 nm.
