The present invention relates to high mol. wt. nonionic surfactants comprising terminal N- or P-contg. end groups or salts thereof, a process for the prepn. of such surfactants and the use of such surfactants in thermo-reversible binding of multivalent anions from aq. systems contaminated with such anions. Thus, prepg. a tosylated Pluronic 85 product and aminating with diethylamine gave a compd. bearing terminal diethylmethylammonium group which can bind sulfate ions.
