Abstract

This paper presents a review of state-of-the-art water electrolysis technology, the state of the commercially available devices, and AC/DC electrolyzer power supply. The technology overview guides a theoretical study to identify the key requirements of the electrolyzer energy system and the electrical characteristics of the electrolysis cell that are fundamental for the power supply design. Further, this work introduces the paramount challenges for the electrolyzer power supply based on the theoretical study with emphasis on performance metrics improvement.
