In this paper, is proposed the use of fuzzy cognitive maps in the representation of the students' mental models. It shows a procedure for obtaining and analysis of mental models. A case study is presented which illustrates the applicability of the proposal and the advantages of the cognitive maps in the understanding of complex systems; in particular, in the presence of vagueness and feedback.
