Abstract

Math. models represent an ideal tool for optimizing the design of the glass melting furnace. However, very demanding models describing the three dimensional temp. field and flow patterns as well as the related finished glass quality are necessary for this purpose. Therefore, some simplified relationships between the glass quality and the furnace design have been derived with the aim to make the above calcn. easier. A satisfactory agreement of the results obtained by using simplified relationships with the data resulting from expts. with three dimensional models has been obtained thus demonstrating the possibility of using the relationships for making quant. ests.
