    Abstract

A survey is given on the various modes of growth and implosion of vapour bubbles during nucleate boiling in pure and binary systems, and of gas bubbles during electrolysis. Also, the formation and contribution to bubble growth of an evaporation microlayer, and the mechanism of bubble departure are discussed. Finally, attention is given to numerical calculations and analytical models on bubble deformations and oscillations.
