Abstract

A set of rate equations is presented describing the deterministic multi-mode dynamics of a semiconductor laser. Mutual interactions among the lasing modes, induced by dynamical high frequency modulations of the carrier distribution, lead to special spectral content of each spatial mode. In this treatment, the diffusion of carriers is shown to play an important role in determining the spectral properties of the field. In the presentation we will explicitly discuss and elucidate the abnormal dispersion relations in the active medium induced by the nonlinear interactions.
