Abstract

In 1966 the foundation stone for the housing development in the Bijlmermeer district in Amsterdam was laid. To the romantic fan of this remarkable housing district, which was founded on the international principles of the postwar functional city, the necessary redevelopment is a thorn in the flesh. Large-scale anonymity has been swapped for small-scale cosiness. The regeneration of the Bijlmermeer signals the final end of the "city of the future".
