Abstract

A problem of experimental research in quadratic electrostriction is the question how the observed strain signal, induced by a high electric field, is influenced by sample mounting. An analytical treatment of the case of a cubic crystal is demonstrated that allows one to find a relationship with material constants and strains that may occur at the bottom of the sample. To find functions that fulfill the given boundary conditions an approach similar to that used to solve the problem of the elastic cube with Somigliana boundary conditions has been employed.
