Abstract

Ultrasonic transducers are integrated into the minimally invasive needles andcatheters for medical diagnostic. There is a need for a model that can predict thebehavior of the ultrasonic transducer. Many designers employ one dimensionalanalytic models, however due to certain limitations these models are not adequateto understand the entire performance of an ultrasonic transducer. Nowadays, finite element modeling is being adopted in the design of ultrasonictransducers. The purpose is to get more realistic transducer simulations and toaccelerate the design process. In this report, a literature survey is presented in orderto model the complete ultrasonic measurement system using the finite elementmethod.
