Face tracking in the compressed domain

Abstract

A compressed domain generic object tracking algorithm offers, incombination with a face detection algorithm, alow-compu-tational-cost solution to the problem of detecting andlocating faces in frames of compressed video sequences (such asMPEG-1 or MPEG-2). Objects such as faces can thus be trackedthrough a compressed video stream using motion informationprovided by existing forward and backward motion vectors. Thedescribed solution requires only low computational resources on CEdevices and offers at one and the same time sufficiently goodlocation rates.
