Abstract

We investigated a hard radiation emitted by long laboratory sparks. We attribute the hard radiation to streamer encounters. Two opposite polarity streamers accelerate electrons to relativistic energies approaching each other. The electrons collide with air molecules and produce x-rays by Bremsstrahlung. The same mechanism is likely responsible for high-energetic radiation in natural lightning
