Abstract

Magnetic anisotropy has been studied in AlxFe3-xO4 single crystals using torque method. The principal results are 1) at the Verwey transition temperature the symmetry of the torque curves is lowered and hence can be measured 2) even for small values of x, Fe2+ enters the A site contributing a negative K1. Finally K1 has been calculated using Mössbauer data and compared with the experimental values.
