Abstract
This report describes the background, set-up and results of a mixed method field study into shading and ventilating practices in seven rented apartments in the city of Rotterdam. The study was conducted during a heat wave in August 2022 and involved 2 couples and 5 single households, all retirees. The households were recruited through social housing provider Havensteder. All apartments had exterior shading (awning or screen) and were all part of apartment blocks with centrally controlled mechanical ventilation and closed corridors.
