Abstract

Based on published results it is obvious that apparent reactivity ratios in atom transfer radical copolymn. (ATRcP) differ slightly, but significantly from those in the free radical copolymn. (FRcP). With the aid of simulations and dedicated expts. we were able to assign these differences to differences in rate of primary radical addn. to the two comonomers in ATRcP.At the onset of polymn. there may be large fluctuations in propagating radical ratio when ATRcP is carried out. The result of this phenomenon on the detn. of reactivity ratio is discussed, and an alternative method for the exptl. assessment of reactivity ratios is proposed
