Effect of fractality on the hopping conduction in carbon-black/polymer composites

Abstract

The mechanism for charge transport in composite polymer conductors with low percolation thresholds is discussed. In particular, it is shown that in carbon-black/polymer composites the charge is transported by variable-range hopping between electronic states superlocalized on the fractal carbon-black network. The conductivity is determined by two universal constants and three parameters that depend on material, components, processing conditions, and ultimate morphology.
