Abstract

It is described how in ESA Estec it has been preliminary investigated and then requested to industry to investigate the realization of two independent beams from one antenna aperture. This is of interest for Synthetic Aperture Radar Antennas, as it widens the coverage potential with a similar antenna aperture (10 by 1 meter) already in orbit art that time. Such a step would lead to a reasonable light weight solution, though fed from a single input for each of the beams, but for the Synthetic Aperture Radar that is an interesting improvement, with full respect for the active array solutions, which were a bit later selected for the next Synthetic Aperture Radar, at a cost of complexity and mass.
