Document-supported communication : design of new forms of interaction

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterAcademicpeer-review

Abstract

Documents came about as a result of the perceived weaknesses of spoken communication. A systematic analysis of human communication processes reveals not only that these are in principle uncertainty, but also where support could be provided that reduces this uncertainty. Despite being a repository of reliable and accurate information, advanced documents can attain a high degree of interactivity. Yet, even though they will nog supplant the partnes in a dialoge, their ultimate value is critically dependent on functioning as partners.
