Do we need 1310 nm transmission in modern networks?

Abstract

We discuss feasibility of high speed multi-wavelength transmission in the 1310 nm transmission window. As an example we demonstrate cost-effective 100 Gbit/s Ethernet transmission over 50 km of SSMF without any dispersion compensation.
