Abstract

An apparatus to measure the mechanical response of a homogeneously gas-fluidised bed to the vertical vibration of an immersed object is described. The mechanical response is measured as the frequency dependence of the phase shift between electrical current and electrical voltage of the electrical driving system. The mathematical analysis of the system contains three electrical parameters and three mechanical parameters, which could all be measured when the vibrating system was suspended in air. Only the mechanical parameters change when the vibrating system is suspended in a fluidised bed.
