Abstract
A direct-drive electromagnetic active suspension system is considered which consists of a tubular permanent magnet actuator in parallel with a coil spring. This system has the ability of improving the ride comfort while maintaining optimum handling and stability.
Since safety is of major concern, the design of a fail-safe active suspension is considered. This suspension system includes passive damping by means of eddy currents. A method for analysis is presented which is verified by finite element analysis and measurements.
