Abstract
The chronotropic effect of ATP on isolated complete frog hearts and isolated ventricles of frog hearts under conditions of high extra cellular potassium concentration (95 mg-% KCl) was studied, as well as the chronotropic effects of ATP and AMP on isolated frog ventricles under conditions of normal extracellular K+ concentrations (20 mg-% KCl).
Results:
1. ATP has a negative chronotropic effect on the complete frog hearts perfused with a high potassium Ringer's solution.
2. ATP has a positive chronotropic effect on the isolated frog ventricle under conditions of high as well as normal potassium concentrations.
3. AMP has no chronotropic effect on the isolated frog ventricle perfused with normal Ringer's solution.
