Abstract
This paper describes the development of a detector that measures the gain and phases of signals of antenna elements of a novel applicator for hyperthermia treatment of head and neck tumors. The applicator uses an array of antenna elements radiating in a water environment. The focussing of the heat requires appropriate beam steering of these antennae, which requires the control of magnitudes and phases of the weights of the antenna elements. The detector has been designed around the AD8302 Integrated Circuit of Analog Devices. This detector was initially developed by NLR with the aim to measure phase errors of elements of an array antenna on a vibrating wing of an aircraft.
