Abstract

Abstract for poster (maximum 250 words): Over the last decades, the workplace practices of engineers have changed due to technology and computerization. So-called Techno-mathematical Literacies (TmL) are necessary skills for engineers of the 21st century. There is some insight into which TmL engineers use in their work, but how these skills can be fostered in education is still unclear. Using a design research approach, a course in applied mathematics for higher technical professional education has been developed. This poster visualises the first cycle of the study, comprising the design, implementation, and evaluation of the course. The results are promising: Students’ motivation increased compared to previous years, and many experienced the course as instructive and useful. There are also some challenges regarding student’s expectations and the implementation of the didactical choices. Subsequent cycles of the study are planned to substantiate theoretical and empirical findings.
