Abstract

This paper concerns modeling, design optimization and experimental validation of a linear synchronous reluctance motor with concentrated windings. A synchronous reluctance motor is optimized using a multi-level, sequential Taguchi optimization method. Experimental validation of the models is performed on a secondary that is optimized to be used together with a primary of an existing iron core motor. The measured continuous force and power factor show a deviation with respect to the models of 6.3% and 2.4% respectively. The optimal design achieves a modeled force density of 0.17 N/cm3 and a force ripple of 36.3% for a current density of 7.7
