Abstract

This paper discusses shortly the actual state in the building industry in general and in the architectural profession in particular. Some implications are given on this basis for the education of young architects. Four main alternatives for the organizational and functional modelling of architectural schools are discussed, namely: the specialist model, the integration model, the beaux arts model, and the multidisciplinary design model. In its original form this paper was written for the board of the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning of the Eindhoven University of Technology because of the recent crisis the faculty had about its future strategy of architectural design education.
