The research described in this abstract focusses on modeling of the sheet flow through the paper path of multifunctional printers/copiers. As both continuous dynamics (motion of sheets) and discrete dynamics (the driving pinch of a particular sheet changes over time) can be observed, a hybrid formalism is needed to describe the sheet flow behavior. In this abstract we will compare three modeling formalisms for a simplified paper path case-study: hybrid automata (HA), piecewise linear (PWL) systems, and mixed logical dynamical (MLD) systems (see e.g. [1] for an exposition).
