    Abstract

A new route for the chlorination of methane is described using ultrasound irradiation, which allows for an intrinsically safe process at ambient pressure and temperature. By tuning the gas feed composition methyl chloride yields of up to 19% have been obtained. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
