    Abstract

A review with 7 refs. on the 1,4-addn. reaction between arom. aldehydes and Mannich bases (the Stetter reaction) used to polymerize appropriately functionalized aroms., yielding poly-1,4-diketones which in turn can be transformed to thiophenes and pyrroles.
