Abstract

This paper presents a comparison of several topologies for a magnetically levitated moving-magnet planar actuator. The topologies are compared in terms of the sensitivity to deformation and power dissipation. To this end, for a given position and desired acceleration, the distribution of the z-component of the force due to the commutated coil set, and the power dissipated by this coil set, is determined and analyzed for the planar actuator topologies.
